Very cool game, love the dark twist you put on it. Wish there was sound, but I added some other than that, very fun!

Amazingly hilarious video, Dragan Kill! Thank you so much for playing :)

I made this game as a fun little parody because I spent a lot of time playing Hey You Pikachu for the Nintendo  when I was a kid. I thought it might be fun to see how many of the N64 mechanics I could imitate on a gameboy.

The reason there's no sound is because I'm a solo-dev who is not good at music, haha. I've tried to start at least putting stock music in my newer projects because that's a frequent issue.

One funny thing you missed is that you learn how to get Pikachu to use thundershock during the Ochre Woods level with Bulbasaur! You end up using that to open the treasure chests later during the Cobalt Coast level.

Again, thanks so much for playing it!

Oh, that is what I needed to open them lol! Glad you enjoyed the video and your welcome had a blast playing it!

As much as this was a bit of a parody, I'm glad there's SOME version of Hey You Pikachu that isn't region-locked (Yes I have a physical copy from off Ebay - 15 years ago - I can't play because I didn't know the N64 was region-locked) and it's GB so even better!
It doesn't make Pikachu look like a featureless walking potato like the emulator does either! XD
Thanks for making this!

Hey! It makes me so happy that you enjoyed it. HYP was one of my favorite games as a kid. Thanks for playing :)

Hopefully one day I can take my copy to a friend in America so I can play it properly like 25 years too late XD You're welcome! ^_^

two options: get an adapter for Japanese games or swap out the cartridge shells. credits to nicobbq on the latter option. if u compare the two, u will notice that the Japanese cart has the two dents in different positions.

Yeah but this isn't a Japanese cartridge XD This is American, and I have a PAL system 'cause Brit, where it was never released. I've tried a cheat cartridge for region swapping or whatever which didn't work no matter which way I tried it, and didn't surprise me too much because I understood it wasn't really a legal bit of tech but hey if Nintendo refuses to sell it on a working non-locked platform nowadays and I can't give them money for it....! And I still can't emulate it without some complicated faffing for the mic...!

Same logic for American cartridges.

OK, well I dunno what to do other than wait to go with it to America to an American console at a friend's house because the cheat adapter thingy didn't work. Not surprised if it's a fake third party thing anyway, like the 173-in-1 cartridges which lost the save function after a year.

Hey pikachu gay

Ok, the jokes made me crack in laughter LOL. Thanks for the game!

We still can’t see the ROM, can you add it for the entry to be valid for the gbcompo21?

Just added!

In case you weren't planning to already- don't forgot to make a downloadable ROM file available so the judges can test on actual hardware.

Oh yeah! Thank you :)

Very cool! I think my favorite part was all the little over-the-top jokes regarding Oak/your (my?) mom. That, and the pixel art for all the Pokemon!
